Why Won't Our House Stay Cool?

(Spartanburg, SC, US)

Our central ac unit seems to be blowing out cold air like it's supposed to, but the house will not stay cool.

We have the thermostat set on 70, but when it gets 80+ degrees outside it gets up to 75-80 degrees inside. We had freon added a couple months ago. What could be the problem?

Call Rheem

Yeah, two different branch central air unit come be install together. You HVACs contractor will know what model match with what branch. I don't have that information. Here is Rheem customer support number (479) 648-4900 and ask them. You will need Rheem air handler model, and serial number.

Our compressor went out, can we buy an outside goodman condenser and get it installed even if the inside blower (evaporator unit) is Rheem

Not cool enough
by: Chester

I would say your problem is described in your next to last sentence "We had freon added a couple months ago". Refrigerant only has to be added to a system when it is low on refrigerant. The reason a system is low on refrigerant is it has a leak in the system. A unit with a low charge cannot provide the proper amount of cooling. You added refrigerant a couple of months ago, did anyone fix the leak? If not it has probably leaked out again.

The air coming out of the register may feel cool, but 60 to 65 degree air blowing on 98 degree skin will always feel cool, but will not keep a dwelling cool on warm days. Air leaving the register nearest the unit should be about 52 to 55 degrees if the indoor temp is around 70.

System should be checked by a qualified HVAC technician, leaks found and repaired and correctly charged with refrigerant. Outdoor coil may also need to be cleaned.
