Third Central Air conditioner In

I had a central ac unit installed to replace an older central ac known to leak. After this installation I am on my third unit in 2 summers with a total of 11 service calls and just had the service tech refill the new unit (r410a).

Every unit has had leaks all over it. This one was "undetectable today". I have decided that if it weren’t for the hazmat issue I would take this thing to the lake and make a boat anchor out of it since its garbage. Unbelievable that this company is allowed to stay in business. Buyer beware these things are garbage, your better off leaving the refrigerator door open. At least you get some sort of cooling going on...

Got a Goodman and it leaked 2 year, than compressor went then it leaked again, then new compressor went out. now with all kinds of test, leaking again and can't find leak. My car got a leak 2010 I put stop leak and it is fine, put some in the Goodman made for it mind you, cost more and did not work. I am buying a unit put it in wall and save money. don't make sense sending air in ducks through the hot attic anyway.

Not sure how your contractor went about it, it is very unlikely that the unit had a leak in it since it was shipped with refrigerant in the ac unit.

If a leak was present it would have all leaked out before it even arrived at your home (typically sits for several months before it arrives somewhere to be installed).

The most common refrig. leaks occur in the line set between the outdoor unit and the evaporator coil above your furnace.

Due to the several brazing joints that occur between the two locations there are several leak possibilities which are difficult to detect and can be very slowly leaked out over several months.

To be properly installed it needs to be tested with nitrogen at a few hundred psi, well beyond what the system will undergo and then let it sit for a while to assure no drop in pressure is experienced.

The installer needs all the right tools to do the job correctly. The next things is that the system is pulled down via vac/pump and pulled to 29.92 HG's for an absolute vacuum and a digital micrometer hooked up to detect contaminant levels and needs to pull down below 500 microns and once again, shutoff system and allow to sit to assure no loss of vacuum and that the microns do not climb back into the thousands, if so there is a microscopic leak that will bleed out system over extended period of time.

Once this is all achieved the refrigerant be released from the outdoor unit to fill the line set and the rest of system (many other things that need to happen to assure a perfect charge but right now, just dealing with leak issue's).

Without doing all this, there is no way to accurately depict how that systems refrigerant levels will hold for any extended period of time. If installed correctly it should never leak out unless by some chance an outside influence cuts something.

We bought a Goodman last summer (GPG154911541AA)and it has run out of freon 3 times. The coil is "bad" and needs to be replaced already. It is dangerously hot here (the heat index in my hometown was 109 today). It has been 8 days and we still do not have the part to fix the problem. Goodman is making no effort to expedite the process. Do not buy a Goodman!

I had a central ac unit manufactured by Goodman and it lasted about 18 years. Then 2 years ago I had my central ac replaced with another Goodman 15 seer .... It didn't even lasted one summer before the Freon leaked out and I had to have it refilled.

It sat all winter and I started it up and Voila No low on freon. It had leaked out over the winter months. Remember this central ac unit is currently 2 years old and this is March and I turned it on a couple of nights ago and guess what? Low in freon.

I was told by a respectable Hvac Licensed installer that Goodman had installed inferior copper tubing in their central units and knew about. They are now replacing any coils that are leaking Free! Well Free means the part only, then add $900.00 for installation which is not covered.

Also the the stems were leaking but Goodman have gone to the non-replaceable valve stems. This sucks! I called, and emailed the company with no response to either. I was told that I had to be a represented dealer.

I didn't have to be a dealer when I bought this piece of Junk. Well, needless to say I am not rich but I am dumping this piece of junk and buying a TRANE. Never, Never,Never, will I purchase another Goodman product.

Dadan, I agree with you, they can say it's an installation problem all they want to, but you can correctly install a piece of junk and it will still be a piece of junk.

By the way here is no such thing as undetectable leak. With the equipment we have available to us today any leak of any size can be found. It sometimes takes a lot of effort, but the leak can be located. The technician that can't find the leak is either lazy, inept or both.

I am in agreement with Dadan on your problem. Most problems in the first five years in the life of a cooling and heating system are the result of poor installation and/or poor maintenance.

Three units in 2 years tells me the installing/servicing technician is not qualified to do the work. Goodman does make good products and just like every thing else that is man made there can be lemons, but not three times in a row. R410a is a relatively new refrigerant and the pressures are quite a bit higher than its predecessor, so proper installation is of the utmost importance.

My advice change service companies.

I assume you have a choice of service companies you can call. I always recommend that you check out the company you are contemplating using. All service companies are not alike, some are excellent while some are shoddy and most are somewhere in between. Check with friends and neighbors to get recommendations.

Goodman had come a long way to improve it HVAC unit, and it seems to me like someone installed wrong.

Hopeful the 11 service calls is not to one person or company. Goodman allows anyone to buy their HVAC online. So, you will have to find someone, who had a lot experience under their belt to install it or add refrigerant. It best ideas to shop around for HVAC Company before spend your money.
