Ruud Hvac Is Nightmare

Brand new unit never worked right. replaced the compressor, coils, fan motor, capacitor. the thing froze up and overflowed leaked all over and we had to replace Sheetrock.

Has broken down 3-4 times each summer for the last three years.Spent a fortune in repairs and now it just broke down AGAIN!! Nightmare!!

I have had a 4 ton air handler for less than 5 years. The 1st coil lasted 2 years. Now 2 years later that one is leaking. They both leaked in the same place and the date on the second one was older than when I bought the unit. The coils are on back order so who knows when the part will come in. This means that a lot of people are having problems with coils and has caused a shortage. Do not buy RUUD.

Ive installed dozens of Ruud systems as well as many brands and overall ive had very few call backs that were due to manufactor defects or components going bad due to poor quality. That being said ive seen techs blame the equipment many times when the problem was improper install. Very few techs so everything by the book. From improper sizing, refrigerant charging/balancing, airflow and a stactic Pressure being wrong. Even just improper brazing practices.
Like not running nitrogen Through system as they're brazing the fittings. Or not flushing copper lineset before a change-up. All issues only the installer would know about and he isn't going to tell you about it I promise. Unfortunately Half the techs out there are learning as they go. The techs that know how to do it properly are actually doing the work they just diagnose and let the helper all the work

We have had our Rudd unit 3 years. Coil went bad 19 days ago. We still have not received the replacement part. This company is so hard to deal with. No one knows where the part is or why it’s taking so long. Can’t find a phone number for them. We have to email. We’ve been emailing for 5 days still no word on where the part is. Do not buy a Rudd!!!!!

My unit was installed October 2018. I’ve had to have parts replaced twice! I would be very interested in a lawsuit against this company! I’m a disabled senior citizen and can’t afford these constant repairs on something that is not even 4 years old! Evaporator fan went, now a bad compressor (turns on and off, won’t cool house down)!

Replaced a 15 year old Trane with Rudd. It failed in 4 days. Compressor bad. Our AC contractor replaced the unit. It failed in 10 months…major leak with oil leaking out of the unit too. They refused to replace the unit, just fixed it. The copper in that AC is worth about a penny. Why do they make such cheap air conditioners? Paid 5300.00 for this unit. Wish I could make a toaster and sell it for 1000.00 and then not stand by my products. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A RUDD AGAIN?

System less than 5 years old, condenser coils all rotted out and RUUD will not cover the parts.

1st they tell me my pad is all white and someone poured bleach on the system. White residue was actually silvery from the coils rotting (confirmed by service techs), then they tell me it is self inflicted and they will not cover it. I never go near the thing never mind poor anything on it or in it.

Call 3 dealers, 2 say they see it all the time and my dealer who installed it says its from pesticides (only insect or fertilizer I use is granular and nothing ever close to the AC).

RUUD customer service reps are RUDE and obnoxious and if you say the word warranty they immediately start being arrogant and do not want to talk to you, and i am a low key guy.

Built a new house and the contractor installed 3 Ruud systems. After 1 year and 4 months coils on 2 compressors are leaking. Rudd will provide the coils as a warranty fix. I am now on the hook to pay $2,000 for labor. Why not just provide units that don't leak? Awful brand, DO NOT buy this junk.

3 Condensers on roof last 15 mths each NEW

To date, I have paid for new condensers every 15 months since purchasing new Rudd A/S system 3 years ago (2018). On none of the 3 occasions it had to be replaced was there any issue that could have precipitated this failure such as an electrical storm or inclement weather. Am I to accept paying for a new condenser every 18 months for the foreseeable future? They go up $100 every 12 months costing upwards of $600.

We moved into our house just over 4 years ago and have had nothing but problems with our system. We have a 14 seer heat pump and have had to replace a TXV replaced twice, Freon leaks down and locks out the system at the worst times. No one can seem to find the leak when their techs come out. Definitely won’t buy one of these crap units again.

I had a Ruud package heat pump installed in 2011. I also bought a 10 yr parts & labor warranty. After the 3rd yr the unit has failed at least once per year. Now, they are denying the labor warranty, yet it doesn't expire until August 2021. I will never buy a Ruud, Rheem product & will steer others away from their products.
I am seeking others that want to start a Class Action suit against Rheem for knowingly selling inferior products.

We moved into a home with 2013 RUUD Ultra System. Coil leaked in the middle of summer. Date on the coil was 2015. It is on it's 3rd inner coil in 6 years. It is the N type coil which is all aluminum. I turned down a good deal to get a new one at our rental home. Saw they make these in Mexico which explains the quality issues. Ruud and Rheem used to be good!

My RUUD compact Unit is horrible, since day 1 I bought it, I can tell you that almost 100 % of all pieces has been replaced due the horrible quality,
they are making the coils with materials that are Oxidized, the compressor in the unit is not having the correct Btu that supposes to have based on the tons of the UNit, is not cooling and at the end broke. You are thinking you bought an Unit of 2.5 tons and the compressor in it has only 25000 BTU, that is for a 2 tons AC and they are stolen your money, because you are not getting what you paid . Thanks God that I have a warranty plan with the company that I purchased and I am just paying for the shipping fee for everything that needs to be replace it, but I can tell you that every 3 months one piece or other needs to be replace, coil, compressor, everything. This is GARBAGE.

An absolute nightmare for ten years!

My so call high efficiency Ruud central air system was installed Ten years ago to "bring down" my energy bills.
After 10 months, the nightmares started. The evaporator coil went out. But gloriously, labor and parts were covered! Year two..my variable air handler motor went out. Labor $300... motor was covered. Here is where it gets crazy... every other year after that, 3 more motors were installed. (At least $300 labor for each. Let’s get back to the evaporator coil. Since that first "free" one... 3 more coils were put in. Each with at least $500 labor charges. You are asking why I stuck it out for Ten years??? A TEN YEAR PARTS warranty.
My labor is over $2000! Thank you Ruud!!!

We had a new home built in 2015. The builder installed 3 Ruud units (3 floors). The 1st year, had to replace coils on 1 of the units. 2nd year, had to have Freon added. Now the same unit has issues just like before. I'm guessing the coils again. We have already paid $600.00 and that was just for labor. I would love to file a suit against this company.

3 heat pump systems on my house(Georgia)in 2007 all 3 still running like a champ. Only had to replace 1 contact that a bug had got in and fried to death keeping it from closing to allow power through. Will definitely being putting Ruud back in when they do die. Of course I do change my air filters regularly and paid to use metal duct for better air flow and less strain on system than flex duct. Used a quality installer, Scotty's Heating and Air

Capacitor replaced and now cracks in weld of reversing
Valve that has to be replaced. Lost all Freon because of that

Class action lawsuits are a waste of time. The only people that are to see real money are the attorneys. You'll get nickels on the dollar the attorneys probably take 33% plus expenses. File a complaint with the state attorney general's office for taken them to Small Claims Court. As far as any warranty work its a joke most contractors can't be bothered with Rheem warranty work especially if you live out the town. No more Rheem for me

well my old Ruud system lasted 14 + years. On 8/9/18 had a new $7000 unit put in, today 9/31/18 it went out. The Ruud tech came out says it needs a new outside unit, REALLY ! ONE MONTH OLD !!. I am having to spend maintenance and repair cost every year on these 2 new LEMON RUDD AC units I purchased in 2013. They are 2 and 3 ton units, 16.5 and 17 SEER. I have had thermostats replaced, leaking coils with freon installed and capacitors replaced. One unit just broke down today. I have owned 4 houses and never had these issues before. Purchasing these units was a total disaster!

Have a 3 year old system and have had trouble with it 3 times, now A coil leaking and the morons at this sh*tty company know they have a issue and will only cover the part, so therefore the customer is stuck with the labor and $$ for the freon that this P.O.S. leaked out. I could cope with this if it was say 10 years old but not 3. I will never have another Ruud anything on the place. Maybe the Mexico can manufacture good drugs but they sure as hell can't build AC units.

Would give zero stars if possible..one star is ranking it way too high. Purchased in 2013 and have had nothing but problems since. Copper lines are too light and vibration in the unit causes them to break. Have replaced numerous parts, some in warranty, but still have to pay for coolant and labor. Repairs have cost nearly as much as a new unit would cost. Have had repairman our three times this week alone. Overflows from drain pan has ruined floors in two bedrooms to boot. Would love a class action lawsuit--count me in.

I purchased a Ruud 2 ton and never worked right from the start. I have had 3 expansion valves , 2 motors and a new coil and it still does not work the parts are under warranty but the labor is not.

The unit it replaced was built in 1984 and ran better than the new one!!!

I am told that I should just replace it as I am putting good money over bad.

Have had to have other smaller repairs every year and now the coil unit has MAJOR leak which is going to cost me over 2K to replace. Just had a new Ruud AC installed along with new air handler. This unit will not remove humidity from my house. I live in Florida so humidity is very high here. The installer has been back to make adjustments, but that did not help. Now he wants to install a new thermostat with humidity control built in. He keeps making excuses as to why he can't get out here to do that. Frankly, I don't think that is the answer anyway. I have to keep it at 73 degrees and the humidity is still at 65. It is cold and clammy in here at 73. I think I am stuck with this unless I want to get a whole new system from another dealer. For another 6K!!

Had purchase a new rudd heat pump 5ton. Right at 2 years old and a bad weld on some valve. 1150 dollars to replace valve and refrigerate in it. This was a defect a from the factory.
Now the owner replace the unit with a new unit for 400.00 dollars. But when I go registration to registered it rudd won't let me. Now that beats ever thing. Way to much money. For this unit.
I do believe they need to be sue and turned in consumer farud.

i purchased 2 new RUUD units in 2014 for $10k and both coils had to be replaced within the first 4 years. This is due to the new coolant which has a higher pressure than the one it was made for. The copper coil has to be replaced with aluminum. While RUUD replaced the part it still cost me nearly $2000 in labor and refrigerant replacement. I would like to sue the local dealer who sold it to me, knowing this was a problem as well as RUUD. i bought a 2017 rudd heat&air outside unit in july of 2017.dec.,a dirty sock smell started coming in thur our house.i called the company who i bought the unit from,and a tech came out and cleaned the evaporator coil.a few hours later,the smell came back.in all,i've had 5 tech show-ups at my house.finally,i recommemded an uv light.they were slow to respond.a tech came out and installed an uv light.it worked for the first 24hrs.and the smell came back.the next day,i didn't notice any smell.i guess the uv light is doing it's job.let's keep our fingers,and toes crossed that it won't return.

We have a 2015 RUUD that worked for only one year! It's terrible we replaced the TXV valve and now we are being told it needs to be replaced again! The coldest it will go is 80 and we live in the desert! Customer service for RUUD is helpless and pointless. We have an AC on the other half of our hose which is original from 1978 and it works perfectly. The RUUD is just over 2 years old and we have had problems since the beginning. It's not an unreasonable assumption to expect an AC to work for 2 years without issues, apparently if you buy a RUDD you have purchased junk and should not expect it to work. I hope my warning reaches anyone looking to buy a new AC PLEASE DON'T BUY A RUUD!

My system is just a little over a year old. I have the 2 stage 17 seer system. It has not worked since day 1 with controlling humidity. The guy who originally installed the system will not return any of my calls. Now I have water in the drain pan. Three different contractors have tried to fix the problem. No one can figure out what is wrong. I still have the problem. All RUUD contractors seem clueless when it comes to this system and the Rheem customer service dept are rude and clueless. The customer service dept reps are rude and do not want to be bothered. DO NOT BUY RUUD!

Please do yourself a favor and so not buy Rheem/Ruud products. I have 3 high end units in my home and can't get through a single season without one breaking. 1 system is on it's 4 evaporator coils, 2nd condenser coil and 4th ECM motor (air handler) and now the compressor has gone out. Other 2 have had evaporator coil and each have had the ECM motor replaced as well. Did I mention these units are only 5 years old!!!! Horrible customer service, like another person posted they work harder trying to get out of honoring the warranty than keeping customers happy. Contemplating contacting attorney to file suit!!! I've read several negative comments about the Ruud system and mention of a class action lawsuit. Can anyone tell me if one is in the works? I installed a Ruud system in 2010 and thought it was great - right up until the 5 year warrantee ended. We had several things go wrong since that time and now the Evap Coil is shot. Quoted 2400 to replace! We live in Phoenix - and need a working A/C system!

New unit, 2 nd summer, had to replace outside unit, said ground up metal all in it. So new again, 3rd summer, not working yet again. In my eyes, 2 units in 3 years. Pitiful. Was just serviced last week for not running properly. Was getting water in garage floor, claimed clogged. Yet had been hearing awful sounds from outside unit. Haven't even finished paying it off. If you read all these comments, it appears Rudd sucks. What a rude awakening. Will never purchase any of thier products again. And sorry but ya hear Rheem is good, perhaps- well Rudd is made by them. So won't take that chance. Other system ran perfectly for 15 years. Our electric bills skyrocketed with this system and extremely poor cooling and very uneven cooling in house, didn't have those issues with other system. Way too much money to pay for a P.O.S.

I had this system put in 3 years ago , and first off it seems to run forever, and when it comes on the temp jumps 1 to 2 degrees everytime????? heres the story...we put in a new ac 2500 btu and a new furnace and all new ducting...we were told the 3000 btu unit that broke was really to big for our home, i am now thinking that was a mistake!! anyway put it in and seemed ok at first, but it runs alot, and is loud...the the next year turned it on and house got hotter, called the guy he put in coolant and he charged me?? okay then we went away when we came back blowing hot air, called the guy and he said a valve got plugged up , because there was a reaction of the coating put on the valve and the coolant, so he replaced it , then the begining of the next year, same thing happened so he replaced that valve again in 2015, so here we are again it june 1st 2016, its 100 out side turned on my unit again the temp jumps 1 degree, so i set it on 67 to see if it would cool , its been running about an hour and the temp is still the same as when it came on!!! we live in southern cali where it is hot 9 months a year, i have a 3200 sq ft house and i have two ac units, i still have my orginal 3500 btu unit on the other side of the house that works better than the new piece of junk i got!!!!!!! i just called a new ac guy to see if he can make this unit work, this is JUNK JUNK JUNK>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> dont buy rudd

Had a previous Ruud system last 22 years with little maintenance. Replaced it with a 3 ton Ruud in 2009 (16 SEER) and it hasn't let us be. Fan Motor blew out twice. The coil leaked inside of a year and needed replacement. Two yrs ago the unit couldn't hold a temp and new serviceman said it might not have been set-up properly. He added 2-3 pounds of refrigerant. This month it started to fail again. New tech added 3 more pounds of gas. System is leaking and needs to be replaced. He recommended steering clear of Ruud (American Standard is his preference.) We need a class action lawsuit with some financial compensation for the customers (vs just the lawyers).

Installed Rheem & Ruud over 30 years, was good at one time. Broke off our relationship in 2013 because of at least a 40 Percent failure rate within a 2 year period,Freon leaking condenser & evaporator coils were rampant, condenser & blower motor failures,capacitors that may not last 24 hours. They knew about this problem for years & continued to sell this equipment without any changes till 2014. we had replaced some customers coils 3 times in 5 years. Got my belly full of it. A class action suit in the making.At one time all manufacturers had coil problems but they did something about it. Ruud & Rheem continued on the same path for at least another year.

I purchased ruud units in 2010, two four ton units they have been a big disappointment. i currently still have a coil that needs to be changed that is leaking, i am speaking to an attorney about filling a law suit against rudd. i feel that ruud could be hit with a class action law suit if enough people join in i will inform everyone about the outcome.

I strongly suggest no one purchase a Ruud. I had one installed in 2010. When it arrived the outside coil had a hole. No problem sometimes that happens. I said to myself. My installer fixed it and off we went.

In the four years I have had it the unit I have replaced:
inside coil
compressor
outside fan
evaporator motor.

If you are thinking it is my installer... NO. I thought the same and had 3 other installer take a look. At no time did any of the installers say it was an installation or technician issue. The unit is horrible!!!! So after 4 years I have paid $3,000 in service calls and Freon. Yes the equipment was "warrantied" but what a joke to spend this much maintaining a 4 year old unit. When I called Ruud they give me the normal manufacturer run around saying it is the technician and I should be happy the equipment was "warrantied"

We installed a 3 ton unit in 2013 and have seen nothing thing but comfort and low energy bills since. We did get their 2 stage 16 SEER unit and put it on their modulating furnace along with a new duct system with 4 zones so maybe we are getting the benefits of doing what's right. Sorry if all the complainers are getting the value of their low bid by an incompetent dealer. Just saying.....

RUUD HVAC is terrible NEW

I bought two systems in 2012. 3 Ton AC System and 75,000 BTU 2 Stage ECM Furnace.

Last year freon had to be added to one system. This year freon leaking in both systems Running cold now but one system is not working as well again. Another expensive service call this year… The Authorized RUUD service tech said there has been a lot of problems with the coils from RUUD and he has replaced a lot under the warrantee. Ofcourse the labor would not be covered just the part/coil. I is freakin ridiculous that this system only ran good for 2 years.

Ruud and Dan Olson's AC SUCKS NEW

I had a new 4 ton unit installed in July Of 2012 by Dan Olson's AC. Since that time we have had Dan Olson's AC out at least 14 times to check the unit.

It freezes and runs 12 hours a day, it has not worked right since day one . At this point Dan Olson's AC dose not even return phone calls and have wiped their hands clean.

I spoke with Ruud today and they pretty much told me your on your own. This is terrible service and criminal to treat your consumers this way.

Don't ever use Dan Olson's AC or buy a Ruud!

4-ton 13 seer a/c installed. 2,000 square feet. It has not worked properly since the install. Freezes up constantly. Can't get a rep out to help with the problem. Installer has exhausted all other solutions. Ruud was at *one time* rated #1. That was then. This is now and now it is nothing but one big fail. Run...run.. as far as you can...away from Ruud. Easy to boast 10 year warranty when you don't cover the cost of labor and never agree that it is an equipment problem.

First off you saying you have 1200sq feet and the model unit you have is a 4 ton which is designed for 2400 sq feet the unit cannot possibly work correctly its gonna short cycle and have terrible humidity issues your lucky if you dont have mold growing on the walls your spot cooling your home . you should have a 2ton unit.

You guys and gals should seriously look into the contractors you have hired most all of the symptoms you people are talking about is contractor/install related or homeowner abuse with dirty filters etc. The units are designed to shut off if airflow is reduced to save you from expensive repairs etc. Just and fyi Ruud is ranked #1 in the nation for consumer reliability if installed and serviced properly. It's the least worked on piece of equipment in the country.

Had a ruud installed in 2010.. Since installation had to have someone come out EVERY YEAR! for something. WHen transitioning from winter to summer the outside switch shuts off, if the air filters are dirty the system shuts completely down.. Now the Fan & Motor is shot it still gets cool but makes a loud hissing noise out the vent and the inside units sounds like a " MAc Truck".. Ac guys states that they are having problems with my model units with the fan motors. Good thing under warranty but I have to eat the labor cost..
Its totally ridiculous..

DO NOT buy a RUUD system. I purchased a complete system in 2010 & have had multiple issues since - - new coil, high humidity levels, condensation on my walls when the furnance is on, and now when the outside temp is 90+ degrees the AC unit shut off and only blows hot air. THey've replaced the "board" and I was told that RUUD is aware of multiple problems with the 2010 units but will NOT recall them.

Had a complete matched RUUD AC 16SEER Ultra unit installed in late August 2010 and used it about two months.Used it in summer 2011 but in the spring 2012 it quit cooling.

The entire coil had to be replaced (under warrenty) because of a manufacturing defective.

The installer had two other RUUD installations that day for the same problem. Still not working right. My 16 year old Rheem unit sets alongside outdoors and still works great..new coil a few years back.

It is less than 2 years old, on a home I use 6 months out of the year. When I need it, it's broke.
Had th EVAP coil replaced in less than one year. Had the fan and Smart board replaced before the second year.
The model is RSPM-AO48JK 4 ton in a 1200sq Ft Moble home

Loud Harmonic Sound from Blower

Installed 16 Seer 4tn Ruud central ac unit 10/22/2010 $8,000 dollar Investment.Loud Harmonic sound coming from blower wheel.

Motor and wheel bearing replaced 01/24/2011.I am left with the same sound an complaint.

Air Handler Heats the house well but the wheel sounds out of balance.The loud Harmonic sound is annoying to the point I would not purchase this product indoor handler again.

Just had a three ton Rudd put in and can not hear guests or tv at normal levels. When it turns on, it is too loud. It is cool, but can not live with the noise.
