Purchased complete system 9/09,gas unit, coil, condenser. Install system myself. Come spring of '10, find ac not working properly. Hired outside vendor at tune of 745.00 to find I have a bad compressor. Get a second opinion,525.00, same answer. Unit under warranty 10 yrs.
Here is the fun part (not so funny),will not honor warranty I was not a licensed contractor and I bought over the internet. Is there any justice? My wife and I sit in a HOT house, retired and limited income. IS THERE HELP?

I have installed some central air units before, then I bought a Goodman split unit, talking to them on the phone, they gladly sole me a 4 ton Split central air unit, delivered it almost door tail gate drop.
I installed this unit, and I am not dumb, I had a contractor that is listed to be approved by Goodman HVAC, charged me 225.00 to start the unit up and check all installation, brazed the line at the outside unit, never put a wet towel or anything to absorb the heat while he brazed it, but he said all looked fine and appreciated my business, then I acquired an online Warranty of 15 years, on the conditions that I apply online, now less than a year.
I had this same contractor back, came out without battery for the freon leak sector, and run a leak test and said there is a leak in the A coil, and said that it was not servicable since he would have to cut copper pipes, and take the coil out, and then send it to Goodman, with all the hooplah.
I finally asked him to leave my property, then I e-mailed goodman two times with no response, and Of course they would tell me since I installed it myself, it would have to be faulty if what this one is saying, let me say, " if they take your money and say it can be installed by homeowner, then they are responsible to answer and give a reason why, and should have said so right up front, just another way to take money from someone, and not do anything about it when the problem occurs.
by the way, I have had, at my expense, a friend who is a licensed contractor test it out, and the leak as he determined so minute that it has had to have freeon, after this jerk serviced three of us's units, all of them needed freeon and all three was almost new units.
this jerk said he put 5 lbs in my unit, but the license frend said it did not hold that much, and he only had to top it off when he added vapor, the which the other jerk, added liquid, which is a no no, according to my licensed freind.
If goodman does not want to stand behind their units, then don't sell them and take them money, that is fraud in my book. I am happy to see that someone is making this information available as there is a lot of con-aritist's that claim to be a c repairmen, and as I had two well known repairmen on another unit, both of them sent out those that could not fix, and even one said " I suggest you buy anoter unit, after he sent one of his beginners and brased an open split in the copper line, and contaminated the whole system, then I called another and he said he could fixe it.
But he like the first and the third got me for around 1700 dollar repair bill, now chew on that coming from a homeowner, who got took real bad by three that was licensed to rip off the homeowner. No, they may refuse, but I can lay down and sleep at night, and I wish there were some honest ac repairmen out there, and I am sure there still is some that is honest, but where are they???
