Fan Works. Air Conditioner Compressor Will Not Start .

Started central air conditioner system and it was blowing nice cool air, and then started blowing warm air. I Checked outside. Outside unit was making a loud noise, getting hot. Noticed condenser fan was hardly working. Then as I inspected the wires (Three from fan), one was rubbing the compressor and shorting out.

Shut off ac system and power at breaker. Then I repaired the wire with a piece of new wire and wire connectors. Wrapped with electrical tape and enclosed all three wires in a 6" piece of rubber hose to insulate from rubbing the compressor.

Started central air conditioner system. Now the condenser fan turns nice and fast and no loud noise. But the compressor doesn't seem to come on and system still blows warm air.

This system has worked for over 25 years without any problems.

I pulled the front panel and I can see the Capacitors (two) are rusty but not bulging just rusty. The contactor is working.

The Type of system is a York "Tomb Stone" with two fans, (one in front and one in rear. Installed in 1984 when we purchased our home. Don't know what ton it is.

Can you help? Thanks in advance.
