Dead Animal Smell

by KRISTIN

When you first turn it on it smells like a dead animal. This did not happen until they put a new system in and new duct works. Its makes you want to throw up.

We have had our air conditioning people come back in and look in the lines, underneath the house for yes dead animal. Because its that bad. I can’t deal with it anymore. This has been going on for about a year. Any suggestion.

My condo smells like a dead animal every time I put on the AC. Maintenance was just done on our central air so I don't know what is going on. Help!

My car aircon smells like dog poo. I bought the car brand new and the aircon smelt fine. Next summer when I turned it back on again, that's when the smell started. It's been like that for a couple of summers. It mostly goes away when it runs for five minutes with the windows down. Would love some insight into what it could be as there is no way dog poo could last so long.

Window Ac Smell
by: Dadan

Hey, Jose

The smell is coming from the window ac unit, the best choice is to open it and find out.

I apologize for not being of any help.

The smell of either dead animal or foul fish smell comes when I set the air-condition on a Cooling Status. It does not always happen, but it appears to be happening more often.

The only time it does not smell is when we use the "Fan Only".

Checked the environment around it and everything is free from any foul smell. Wind currents are mainly from the Southeast and Southwest with no foul smell.

I'm running out of options on what to do.
I'm kinda figuring that refrigerant might have something to do with it, but than I think that 95 to 104 degree weather might have a factor in there somewhere.

Did maintenance by cleaning, washing, and putting a deodorant on it, but that did not work.
