Continuous Hissing Noise While The Outside Unit Runs

The only way I can describe it is that it sounds like a car tire deflating after a screw or nail was removed from it. It's a continuous "ssssssssss" kinda noise coming from the outside unit.

When it hisses, the air coming out from the vents is warm, so I end up just shutting it off cause there's no sense letting it run nonstop only to skyrocket my electric bill if it's not cooling off my home.

It sometimes stops hissing at night and the air gets cool again, but since I live in FL, during the day is really when I need the central air conditioner on the most, especially with 2 small children and elderly inlaws. I'd really like to find out exactly where this hissing is coming from and where I can get the part(s) I need to fix it and it won't break the bank!

I may want to mention that it's a Rheem 3-ton 14 seer, straight cool, the heater is in the handler in the attic area.

Unit is making hissing sound when the unit is off don't know if it does that when it is running. Just noticed the sound yesterday, should we be alarmed as to what it is coming out ?

Mine just started hissing continuously while the unit is on and there is no loss of cool air. Suggestions?

I have a single stage heat pump air handler. It makes a hissing noise when it shuts off sometimes. That hissing noise seems to be with the reversing valve. If the unit is cycled on and off quickly or is on too long, it will make this sound. Also, I noticed that it only makes this sound when it is really cold outside, being a heat pump the condenser probably gets really cold. I am wondering if the unit purposely reverses the valve after it trips the low pressure switch.

I'm hearing the same kind of hissing sound (like a slow air leak), even when the unit is not running. The unit is cooling but comes on much too often. And I can hear a slight rattle (inside and outside) when the unit is running. We have AC problems almost every year but this is one we've not had before.

My central air also started to just run nonstop, and blow out warm air last week. When I shut it off, I hear that hissssss... I called a guy and he is going to give me a new condenser r22 replacement unit today. I am hoping this will take care of the problem and get me cool again tonight :/
