Central Ac Not Cooling Properly

by Nicole
(Louisiana)

My A/c unit has not been keeping up with the settings. I have it set at 76 degrees and it was up to 80 degrees and would not go down.

I live in Louisiana and the heat index has been around 110 degrees during the day. At night it will drop to the 76 degree setting.

Could it be doing this because it cannot keep up from the extreme heat or should it be able to still handle it? What would be the proper thing for me to do?

Hey, Joseph

There could be a lot of thing to cause a central ac from cooling well and expansion valve is one of the reasons.

The only thing I could tell you is to find technician, who is concern with the customer need.

I apologize for not being of any help.

Not Cooling Well
by: Joseph C

I had my central air unit checked by a tech, and he said it needed a charge, he added a charge and it didn't help.

I called him back and he changed the drier and did not pull suction after it was installed, I asked him about that and he said he had released the air through the charging hose.
This repair didn't do any good.

I called another repair man, he told me that the first man had put air in my central air unit. And he replaced the charge with a fresh one.

This seems to help a little but it still doesn’t cool like it did before I started having the problem. I was thinking it may be the expansion valve that was causing my problems to start off with.

Can you tell me if I am on the right track or not?
I mentioned that the valve should be checked and he didn,t want to check it

ac not cooling properly
by: Chris

Nichole

while ac is running the outside condenser fan should be pouring out very hot air.
See if you can find the two copper lines that come from the inside the house (usually at the bottom corner or side.

See if one of them is very sweaty(wet and cool or cold to the touch)
If the air coming out of the vents is pretty cool then chances are that at 110 degrees the freon cannot really cool itself in the outdoor coils(condenser) and is actually returning to the compressor very super heated sense not as cool air
I hope this eases your mind
