Blower Fan Doesn't Run

by James
(Miami,Fl)

Central air conditioner compressor and fan outside starts and runs but the inside Fan (Squirrel Fan) doesn't run, the only way is if I open the cover and start it by hand and it runs but then when it recycles I have to start it by hand every time.

Air condenser fan
by: Anonymous

Heat in house fan etc works great, outside fan in compresser won’t go on. Replaced capacitor, no help, checked motor on fan runs on 110 spins freely. I can here and see the points on the switch click on but still the fan doesn’t turn or go on? Thermostat runs on fan inside the house but still the outside fan doesn’t come on ?
Any thoughts?

Fan problem
by: Chester

I failed to mention the results of starting a fan motor by by spinning the blade when you have a bad run capacitor.
The fan motor will draw more amperage with the capacitor open and overheat the motor windings. Over heating the motor will cause the insulation on the windings to break down causing the motor to short out.
If the capacitor is not replaced, you will likely be replacing the motor soon.
As always repair of Air-Conditioning and heating equipment should be done by qualified HVAC technicians.

Blower motor won't run
by: Chester

Dadan is most likely right, the motor run capacitor is probably open. This should be checked by a qualified HVAC technician to be be certain.

You will find in the long run it is less costly to have a qualified technician to diagnose and repair heating and cooling equipment problems. It can save you money and could, in some cases, save your life.

It Sound Like You Have
by: Dadan

I'm not looking at the air handler unit. Bases on your question, it seems to me like you're having a run capacitor problem. This is just an educational guess with the information you provide. Don't follow it.

The run capacitor will have label of 370 or 440 volt on it. It has two solid brown wire or one solid brown wire and one brown with white stripe.

Again, this answers is bases on the information you provide.

Sincerely,

Dadan
