Air Handler Fan Relay

I have a 3 ton air handler in my attic. The fan relay chatters and the motor inside the air handler turns very slowly, and at the same time the fan relay beings to melt.

I have replaced the capacitor and replaced the relay. The relay does the same thing chatters and melts. I have disconnected all the wires going into the relay except the 24 volts to the relay coil.

That's when it still chatters. The N/O side is what melts away. I checked the l.v. transformer and it's putting out 25 volts. the coil is 24v. the n.o. & n.c. is 20/10amp -277v

I give up please help

p.s our central ac unit is 5 years old

you have to much power going to relay bad transformer or need a larger transformer installed or fan moter needs replacing blower in side short in windings of blower moter make sure voltage is right going to system coming from disconnect box n going to disconnect from breaker panel breaker must be the right size in panel to run unit right .

You obviously have an overamp situation. I would say the motor has a winding open or windings are shorted.

I think your statement " I give up please help" is what you should go with.

You have already spent money on the cap and relay without fixing the problem. My advice is to call a qualified HVAC technician before you throw more money at the machine replacing parts. You will likely need a new motor, capacitor and relay. You may have a line voltage problem causing the chatter. Most 24 volt transformers put out about 27 volts. Low line voltage will also cause motors to overamp.
