What the supply air temp?

by Richard
(Houston, Texas)

If the temp at the return is 78 F, what should the temp at the supply register be? I'm getting about 62 F supply temp at the register nearest the unit. I've been told that this is not good enough. (We live in a 1,500 sq ft apartment.)

Supply air temp
by: Chester

At a minimum the temperature difference across a cooling coil should be 16 degrees. Your system is work at the minumum. Depending on the age of equipment, out door temperature, humidity and other factors the split may be more or less. A newer system in Houston working properly should probably have a greater temperature split than the 16 you quoted, but would expect no greater than 22 to 25 degrees due to the relative humidity in your area. Make sure your out door coil is clean and the filters in you air handler are cleaned.

As always HVAC equipment should be serviced and repaired by qualified technicians.

Supply Air Temp
by: Ur Neighbor Tech

55-60 F supply air temp is good, it my opinion. 62 F is not good or bad either. You probably need tech to perform maintenance and clean it. It will help the central air conditioner perform better and provide cooler supply air by cleaning the indoor and out coil.
