2 year old unit, has a coil leak.

(Palm Harbor, FL)

Replaced my old central ac unit 2 years ago and now have to replace coil because of a leak. This shouldn't happen this early in the life span of a new system, very unhappy with the quality control of this product.

coil leak also
by: Anonymous

I bought a new home from Ryan Homes in March, 2007. I have two AC/Htg zones - both Janitrol units. Just last August (2010), I had to have my upstairs unit worked on - had a coolant leak. I had a leak test - was the coil inside. The tech showed me what he thought was the issue, then commented that he had been replacing lots of these coils. Matter of fact, he said that
Goodman was changing the coils to aluminum. I don't think this should be happening - sounds like very bad quality control.

Just asking.

Your coil wasn't under warranty still? Usually there's a 5 year warranty on sealed refrigerant components in a system.

Also, did a tech use a leak detector to diagnose the leak in your coil, or did he just say, "Look at all this rust. This is where your leak is coming from."? I've seen a lot of things like that in my career. Evaporator coils seldom develop leaks that fast, and if a filter dryer is clogged, that will cause the gauges to give a different reading than normal.

I'm just saying, I hope someone didn't take advantage of you.
