13 SEER American Standard Condenser

by Single Lady
(Dallas TX, USA)

I paid $3,944.00 for the install of a 2011, 3 Ton, 13 SEER American Standard Condenser "only" (R-22)- the outside unit.

I feel I paid too much since it was only a 30 min install---and the contractor would not disclose how he came up with that price or what was included. It did come w a 10 year warranty...

Estimate for 5 ton Amercian Standard 13 seer
by: Anonymous

I have 5 condenser units. One just went it was a 5 ton Trane (the original units that cooled ther whole house of 2200 feet). The house was increased to 5600 square feet and 4 additional units were added.

So the original Condenser now only cools 4 rooms and about 1200 square feet. could I go with a 4 ton unit instead of the 5 ton?

I got a quote of 4300 for a new trane 5 ton (this guy said he could put a 4 ton in their for about 3700).

I also got a quote for 2800 for an American Standard 5 ton 13 seer. This guy said that he would have to replace the handler if we went with a smaller AC unit (4 ton). Any other questions I should ask???? Thanks.

Too late

Not only did you pay to much but if it only took 30min then im sure you will be encountering problems in time. Next time get a union guy to do it on the side.

Higer Price!
by: William

The cost is not normally disclosed to the consumer. American Standard (Trane) products are normally higher priced than most brands. You are correct in thinking you overpaid for the job. A 3ton condenser R-22 installed in your market area sells for $2800-$3200.

This would include a new orfice or TXV at the coil, vacuuming the system, refrigerant, liquid line drier (if not already installed on condenser) and recovery and recycle fee. The task normally takes around an hour and a half. Were you able to deduct the fees for diagnostic of the failed unit? Did you get a labor warranty with the parts warranty?
